Sunday 31 Jan

Reflection for Sunday 31 Jan 2021

“ God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46 : 1

These are the words contained in the wayside pulpit, outside the church in Crossford.

Words that I have seen and that have caught my attention this past week.

Words which come from one of my favourite Psalms.

A Psalm which contains words of great encouragement for us when we are going through difficult times.

Further on the Psalm says, “Be still and know that I am God”, words which bring comfort when we feel like the events of life are so out of our control.

For sure these are words we need to hear as we continue through this latest lockdown.

I wonder how many people from the village have seen the words in the wayside pulpit and have taken comfort and encouragement from them?

One our friends’ here at the centre is the person who is responsible for putting up the posters in her church’s wayside pulpit. And, I know she thinks carefully about the words that will be on display to passersby............hoping that the words will strike home and perhaps bring comfort or encouragement, just when needed.

Putting words in the wayside pulpit is one of these little acts that are a real ministry, for these words can reach people who might not ever come to church.

The people who faithfully place these posters up often go unnoticed and yet provide, in their own quiet way, a way for God's love to reach out.

So today I say,

God bless you............ all you, who through your thoughtfulness and carefulness bring the Word of God to those who pass by.”
