I expect like me you will be continuing to be amazed to hear about the increasing money raised by Captain Tom Moore. He has now raised over £20m for the NHS to help fund the frontline fight against the coronavirus.

The WW2 veteran, 99, originally wanted to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday on 30 April......but each day the figure raised has taken increased beyond his wildest imagining.

It made me think of how often it’s the most unexpected people who by making a little gesture can find that their little gifts have become something wonderful.

Day by day as we traverse these days of lockdown and social isolating little acts of kindness and compassion bring joy and hope to others.

It’s not anything new of course as we know from scripture, little people, or the most unlikely of people find they by making what seems a small act, can find themselves part of God’s wider plan.

Some of them are named, like David, who with a sling and 5 small stones felled the giant Goliath. (1 Samuel 17)

Others are not named, like the little maid we read about in (2 Kings 5) who guided the powerful Naaman to find healing. And the story of the little boy who gave his small picnic of five loaves and two fish to Jesus, and 5000 people were fed. (John 6)

There’s a song from Les Miserables which sums this up beautifully, and always, makes me smile....... here’s the first verse.

“They laugh at me, these fellas, Just because I am small They laugh at me because I'm not hundred feet tall! I tell 'em there's a lot to learn down here on the ground The world is big, but little people turn it around!”

One day a little lady did something that proved to be momentous.

Tired from a full day's work, Rosa Parks boarded a Montgomery bus on December 1, 1955 and forever became one of the inspirational people who changed the world. When she refused to obey the driver's order to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus so a white person could sit there, she was arrested for civil disobedience. Parks' act of defiance, and the Montgomery Bus Boycott that followed, are recognized as pivotal moments in the civil rights movement.

For sure God chooses to use people of all ages and form all backgrounds to accomplish His purposes.

I wonder how he will use us today?

Can we do a little something I wonder to make a difference to someone?
