FRIDAY 8th MAY

FRIDAY 8TH MAY 2020

Good morning, friends,

These sunny mornings have certainly encouraged me to get up and get out for an early morning walk. On Wednesday I decided to combine the walk with a visit to the Overton Farm Shop in the Clyde Valley. I was in a good frame of mind as I walked along; the sun was shining, the birds were singing, the blossom on the trees was beautiful, and I felt at peace with life.

Then the peace was shattered as a huge black van drove by a blared his horn aggressively. I got a real fright, and nearly fell over.

My stomach cramped and I could feel a surge of anger rising up.

I turned round and shook my fist, and then walked on growling and muttering away to myself.

This went on for around two minutes, and then a verse from scripture popped into my mind.

It comes in 1 Corinthians 13, Paul is speaking about love and his words are addressed to the Church in Corinth. Verse 5 says this, “(love) does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

I felt like I had had a slap from the Lord, and it pulled my up sharp.

I had a choice to make, allow the actions of the man in the car to continue to upset me and spoil the morning, or let my anger go.

I chose to let it go, and was able to continue with my walk in peace.

When we feel wronged often anger surfaces and it can eat into our peace of mind if we don’t deal with it quickly.

I remember a woman I knew once who had been wronged by her son and she was still angry with him years later.

No matter how often her son visited her and said he was sorry and acted kindly towards her, she would not let him off the hook.

She reminded me of verse in the poem Tam O Shanter by Robert Burns of the woman waiting for her husband to come home, “nursing her wrath to keep it warm”

As I was walking home that morning another verse from scripture came into my mind, and it appeared also as an e-mail from the Glasgow Prophetic Centre, which I simply share with you.

Think on These Things

At this time of 'lockdown' - a place that most of us have never been before or could have ever imagined - it is so easy to get caught up in the grumblings, the worries, the uncertainty, and tempers can fray. But I keep hearing the Spirit of the Lord saying, Don't think on the things that are pressing in on you right now, but instead, set your mind on these things:

“Brothers and sisters, , whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

I wish you peace this day, and lovely things to think on.
