words to cheer

After a week or so of snow and ice which made getting out for my daily walk difficult, I was so happy the other day when it rained and all the snow and ice melted.

I set off for my walk singing away to myself giving thanks to God for the rain which had dealt with the problem walking conditions.

However, a few days later, the snow was back and when I looked out the window my heart sank.

I resigned myself to being "stuck in" once more and was feeling really glum.

However, during the morning, I turned to a book of poems and came across one which lifted my spirits and made me smile.

The More It Snows by A.A.Milne...............a wee song by Winnie the Pooh as he waited in a snowstorm for his friend piglet to open his door.

"The more it snows (Tiddely-pom) The more it goes (Tiddely -pom)

The more it goes (Tiddley-pom) On snowing.

And nobody knows (Tiddley-pom) How cold my toes (Tiddely -pom)

How cold my toes (Tiddely -Pom) Are growing"

.Over the years I have gathered lots of poetry books, and often turn to their pages where I find words which cheer or inspire. Some words make me make me think more deeply about life, some touch the heart and on occasion some poems move me to tears.

Maybe some folks reading this post will also be lovers of poetry.

Of course as Christians we have access to the most wonderful book of poetry, and can find encouragement for daily life in the words contained therein.

I am speaking about the book of Psalms, where the writer speaks about the ups and downs of life, the joys and sorrows, the writer expressing so honestly how he is feeling and how he relies on God to help him make sense of all that happens day by day.

I have often turned to this book and found over and again that the words resonate with experiences that come my way as I walk through life.

Over the years they have encouraged me and helped me to place my trust in God for all aspects of my daily living.

So, whatever is happening to you today, however you are feeling, i encourage you to turn to the Word of God contained in the Psalms, where you will find food for your souls.

Remember you do not walk through life alone, there is one who knows you and loves you.

God bless your day.
